NeuStudio
This 48-page teacher planner is designed for Hebrew School teachers to use to plan lessons, manage classes and keep class records. The book features inspirational quotes in English and Hebrew and a custom pattern on the cover. Behrman House wanted the book to feel like a gift, but not too formal. The design needed to feel both special and approachable.
The interior of the book features pages that are designed with ample room for teachers to write. Page headings feature a pencil-outlined font. The hand-drawn style font and pencil lines invite educators to use the book as a tool. We colored each letter of the headlines individually to add impact and energy. To carry the visual theme forward, fill-in-the-blank spaces were outlined in a pencil style as well. Using the same graphic style, there are specific page designs for goal setting, lesson plans, attendance, and periodic evaluation.
The title includes useful reference pages such as a Jewish and Secular Calendar, Hebrew Characters, and Techniques for Practicing Mindfulness.
This project required typesetting in Hebrew. In addition to installing the necessary fonts we made adjustments to our software to accommodate setting text that will be read from right to left.
After reviewing generic patterns for the cover of the book, Behrman House asked us to create a pattern using their logo. They wanted a pattern that was classic but bright, and suggested Hermès tie patterns as inspiration. After studying the colors and graphic placement of the high-end tie fabrics, we created a seamless repeating pattern in Adobe Illustrator. This allowed us to test logo size, distribution multiple color combinations by changing only the core pattern graphic, and quickly apply that change over the whole cover.
Our design begins with understanding the structure of the manuscript so that typography supports the text.
NeuStudio works to make sure each page of a resource title fulfills its purpose. Informative pages are arranged for the easiest, clearest presentation of important information. Pages that can be filled in are designed to leave comfortable space to do so. Consistent elements such as fonts, colors, running heads and page numbers keep the experience of the book consistent for the reader.
